3003 H18 Alloy Chemical Properties

3003 H18 Alloy Physical Properties
  • High strength: High strength level achieved through cold working

Production Process

Processing aluminum foil into honeycomb core is a precise and highly automated process. The core is to form a continuous hexagonal honeycomb cell structure through a special forming and bonding process.

1. Aluminum foil preparation

Select aluminum foil coils of specific grade 3003 and thickness. The aluminum foil surface needs to be degreased and chemically treated (such as chroming or chromium-free treatment) to improve the adhesion of subsequent adhesives.

2. Gluing

Apply high-strength adhesive in parallel stripes to specific locations on the aluminum foil. The width and spacing of the glue stripes determine the size and shape of the final honeycomb cells. Gluing method: Precision roller coating or spraying to ensure that the glue line is uniform, continuous and precisely positioned.

3. Corrugation forming

The glued aluminum foil will pass through a set of precision corrugation rollers. These rollers press the originally flat aluminum foil into a continuous wave shape. The peak distance and height of the corrugation need to be strictly matched to the spacing of the glue stripes.

4. Lamination and lamination

Precisely align and stack multiple layers (usually dozens to hundreds of layers) of pressed corrugated aluminum foil. Key point: The peaks of each layer of corrugated aluminum foil must be precisely aligned with the position of the glue stripes of the adjacent layer.

5. Lamination and curing under high temperature and pressure

The hot press or continuous hot press belt applies pressure and heat to the laminate. The adhesive melts, flows and solidifies, firmly bonding the contact points of adjacent corrugated aluminum foils. After curing, bonding points are formed between adjacent aluminum foil layers at the glue coating, and the uncoated corrugated parts naturally open up to form the prototype of honeycomb cells.

6. Formation of "honeycomb block"

After lamination and curing, the originally separated multi-layer corrugated aluminum foil becomes an integral aluminum block with a regular pore structure inside, called a "honeycomb stack" or "honeycomb core blank". At this time, the honeycomb cells are connected in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the aluminum foil, but the cells along the plane of the aluminum foil have not yet fully opened.

7. Stretching and unfolding

Fix the two ends of the cured honeycomb stack on the stretching machine. Apply tension perpendicular to the corrugation direction. Under the action of tension, the bonding points between the corrugated aluminum foil layers serve as fixed points. The troughs of the corrugations are pulled apart, and the originally stacked cellular structures are evenly spread out like an accordion. Finally, a three-dimensional honeycomb structure with regular, continuous, hexagonal cellular cells is formed. The stretching speed and strength must be precisely controlled to ensure that the cellular cells are evenly opened, without tearing or deformation.
